Every new student begins their journey with a 75-Minute Initial Vocal Assessment ($120). This isn’t just a lesson—it’s a deep dive into your vocal story, goals, and potential. Think of it as visiting a specialist: our expert teachers evaluate your voice, identify areas for growth, and create a tailored plan—a “vocal recipe”—designed specifically for you. From here, we work together to:

Founder & Director
Dr. José Miguel Santelices is the driving force behind VOCES Academy of the Arts, a transformative space where voices blossom, dreams take flight, and artistic excellence is cultivated. As the academy’s founder and director, Dr. Santelices combines years of experience as a performer, educator, and mentor to empower students at every level—from beginners finding their first notes to seasoned performers perfecting their craft.
With a Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from The University of Utah, a Master of Music from the University of South Florida, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a German Studies minor from St. Lawrence University, Dr. Santelices’s expertise is both deep and broad. He served as Voice Instructor of Record and was a featured member of the prestigious Nancy Peery Marriott Graduate Vocal Quartet during his doctoral studies, earning accolades like 1st Place in the Advanced Classical Division of the Northern Utah Chapter NATS competition.
Dr. Santelices’s professional affiliations with NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), MTNA (Music Teachers National Association), and TMTA (Texas Music Teachers Association) reflect his dedication to staying at the forefront of vocal pedagogy. Internationally, he has honed his skills as an Opera Fellow with La Musica Lirica in Italy and as a Summer Fellow with Assisi Performing Arts, bringing global insights into his teaching. As a proud Latino artist, Dr. Santelices celebrates diversity through vibrant programming of Hispanic repertoire, including zarzuela, tango, and Chilean folk music. His teaching philosophy is rooted in science-based pedagogy and personalized mentorship, helping students build confidence, refine technique, and become their own best teachers.
